The hotel was a converted convent with the bust of King Juan Carlos adorning the front desk. Hotel Convento sat on the edge of a cliff facing south over beautiful farmland of orange tree orchards, sunflowers and corn three hundred feet below. Our room led out on to a patio of Mediterranean tiles overlooking the expansive view including the Rio Guadalete. Pigeons flew out over the cliff or roosted cooing in the niches of the nearby parador.

Hooded Leaders of the Procession during Holy Week

After taking pictures of the countryside we traveled on to Arcos de la Frontera where we walked pleasantly three fourths of a mile up hill to get to our hotel because the narrow medieval streets could not accommodate our bus.

The driver, a good man named Jorge (the same name as our wonderful guide) and the hotel owner brought our luggage up in a van.
